Navien annual Service

Navien combi boiler and water heater annual service includes:

– (Combi Only) Flushing of the space heating heat exchanger which is what heats up the water that goes through your baseboard’s to heat your home. This is done with a descaling chemical. After pumping the chemical in a loop from a bucket through the system then back into the bucket for a certain amount of time we then shut off the pump and the valves putting them back the way they were when in normal operation.

–  Flushing of the plate heat exchanger which is responsible for heating up your domestic hot water for your shower, faucets etc. This is done with a descaling chemical. After pumping the chemical in a loop from a bucket through the system then back into the bucket for a certain amount of time we then drop the pump into a clean bucket of just water to flush the chemical out of the system.

– Clean domestic cold water filter

– Clean air intake filter screen

– Clean Condensate trap

–  (Combi Only) Remove cartridge from NaviClean magnetic filter and clean off debris thoroughly. Reinstall cartridge and pressurize filter housing.( This is done only if NaviClean magnetic filter is installed on the system )

– Clean filter on space heating piping located at the bottom of the Navien

– Turn all valves back on. Power up Navien and let it run for a few minutes so the Navien can let us know if there is any air in the system.

– . (Combi Only) We then start and test the system. First testing the space heating making sure all heating zones are working. Then we test the domestic hot water making sure it turns on and off when its supposed to. Make any temperature setting adjustments if needed.

Navien prefabricated manifold  and valve kit for primary loop

The Navien Manifold is required when performing the flushing of the heat exchangers with descaling chemical. Navien highly recommends this is done yearly by a skilled heating technician. Sometimes installers leave this out to save money on the installation so that they can either make more profit or so that they can offer the customer a lower install price without the customer knowing that they are cutting corners on important parts that are needed on the installation.  

This manifold has shut offs to isolate the heat exchanger and hose connections to hook up a pump and a discharge hose. This is so that a descaling chemical can be pumped directly into the Heat Exchanger and then back out with out going through the rest of your heating system. Because the unit condensates is causes scale build up inside the heat exchangers. This scale is what causes corrosion from the inside out. When the unit starts to scale really bad you will see a white crust at the seems and this scale will also destroy all sensors and mechanical moving valves like your 3-way valve. This is why Navien highly recommends this service is done annually to protect your Navien equipment. When you have a Navien Combi you have two heat exchangers. One is for your space heating and the other is for your domestic hot water. The space heating one is the larger of the two and needs to be flushed longer.

Without this Navien manifold this service of flushing the heat exchangers with descaling chemicals can not be done. This is why its important to find out if you have the manifold or you can also have valves and hose connections installed on the piping by a licensed professional. This service should be done on any high efficiency equipment that condensates weather its Navien or not.

Navien cash rebates

Most of Navien’s equipment is eligible for some sort of rebate from your natural gas supplier and from the federal government in the form of a tax rebate. In order for the equipment to be eligible it has to be %95+ efficiency. So as long as your equipment condensates its usually a high enough efficiency but you must check the manufacturer of your equipment to be sure that it qualifies. These rebates go for any name brand equipment as long as it meets the efficiency requirements.

The Navien combi boiler and water heater units are eligible for a total of $2,000 in rebates. National Grid or your gas supplier is offering $1,400 in a cash rebate and also an additional $600 from the federal government in the form of a tax credit.

The Navien tankless water heater is eligible for $1,200 in total for rebates. National Grid is offering $600 and the federal government is offering $600 in a federal tax credit.
